US businessman Ashraf, 24, takes over at Tamworth
An American-based real estate company has completed its takeover of National League club Tamworth FC. The Lambs have been in negotiations for several months over a deal and confirmed on Tuesday that Dawn Group International had finalised a move to become the club's new owners. The company's founder and chief executive Abdullah Ashraf, 24, will become chairman, taking over from Bob Andrews. Ashraf said he was "exceptionally excited and blessed" to take charge and that previous primary shareholders Andrews and vice chairman Steve Lathbury had done "amazingly well with the club over the past 40 years". On the field, Tamworth secured back-to-back promotions under boss Andy Peaks, returning to the fifth tier in 2024 after a 10-year absence. Tamworth have also had recent memorable success in the FA Cup in the 2024-25 season, when they knocked out League One sides Huddersfield Town and Burton Albion before losing to Tottenham Hotspur in extra time in the third round. New owner targeting promotion to EFL Ashraf, who also owns American regional side Oklahoma United FC, said he will be "hands-on" at The Lamb and would be "flying over frequently to support the club and push forward my plans to advance Tamworth FC on and off the field". Those plans include getting Tamworth into the English Football League for the first time in the club's 93-year history. "I see a very bright and exciting future ahead and, in my capacity as chairman, I guarantee that I will do everything in my power to push Tamworth Football Club to new heights," Ashraf said. "Back-to-back promotions, the excitement of the 2024-25 FA Cup run and stabilising the club in the National League are superb achievements. "Now it's time to build on those successes and take the club to even greater heights and I intend to make the dream of Tamworth playing in the EFL a reality." The club said Ashraf had been directly involved in deals worth more than $250m (about £187m) in commercial real estate transactions across the United States and currently oversees a platform with more than $100m (about £75m) in assets "under management and active development". Ashraf also has a minority share in National League South club Truro City, but it is understood that is in the process of being sold.
