Molina now reports that Tunisia have identified Renard as the man to lead the Eagles of Carthage throughout the rest of their World Cup campaign. The 57-year-old is one of the most respected coaches in international football and brings a wealth of experience at both African and global level. Renard is famous for guiding Saudi Arabia to one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history when they beat Argentina in their World Cup 2022 curtain raiser in Qatar. His international coaching career spans several countries, including Morocco, Zambia, Angola and Ivory Coast, as well as the French women’s national team. Renard has also enjoyed significant success in African football, winning the Africa Cup of Nations on two separate occasions with different countries. The Frenchman also has plenty of experience at club level after spells with Cambridge United, Sochaux, and Lille. Lamouchi’s departure is a huge blow, considering he hasn’t been in the job for too long. Appointed in January following Tunisia’s last-16 exit at the Africa Cup of Nations, he managed just one victory during his spell with the national team. Following the defeat to Sweden, Lamouchi admitted the performance had fallen well below expectations and called on his players to respond positively in the matches ahead. “It’s a difficult loss. It’s painful,” Lamouchi said. “Starting the competition with this bad of a loss is indeed difficult. “With world-class players that we have in the two Swedish forwards, it’s something that you don’t recover from. We made way too many mistakes. “We have our pride. We need to react. We need to give a better image.”
