Report: The seven La Liga titles Real Madrid claim Barcelona have ‘stolen’ due to payments to Negreira Real Madrid have dropped yet another bombshell in their ongoing feud with Barcelona over the Negreira case, confirming that they have sent a dossier to UEFA denouncing alleged referee corruption stemming from Barcelona’s payments to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira. The payments, totalling €8.4 million over 17 years between 2001 and 2018, were made to the former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees. Florentino Perez has long maintained that the affair cost Real Madrid dearly, even claiming before the recent elections that he could have won 14 La Liga titles rather than seven, alleging the rest were “stolen” from him. According to AS , the club have documented the seven specific league titles Perez believes were lost due to refereeing decisions. Here is the breakdown. Real Madrid point to a disproportionate distribution of penalties and cards that season, with Barcelona awarded 10 penalties to Madrid’s five, and far fewer red cards across the campaign. The 2009-10 season followed, in which Real Madrid broke the points record with 96 under Manuel Pellegrini but still finished behind Barcelona’s 99. The club cite dropped points at El Sadar, San Mames and the Sanchez-Pizjuan as decisive. In 2010-11, Jose Mourinho’s first title challenge ended with 92 points to Barcelona’s 96. Real Madrid again highlights a card imbalance and the infamous “Clos Gomez’s 13 mistakes” list, as well as the title-defining Clasico at the Bernabeu in which Raul Albiol was sent off. Real Madrid’s claims in the modern era The 2014-15 season saw Cristiano Ronaldo score 48 goals, but Real Madrid lost out by two points, pointing to their two derby defeats against Atletico Madrid. Real Madrid’s primary grievance is the penalty count, with Barcelona allegedly awarded 19 penalties to Real Madrid’s nine across the season. The 2020-21 title, won during the pandemic, is attributed to a contentious penalty awarded to Eder Militao against Sevilla, alongside a disallowed handball decision in the Madrid derby. Finally, the 2024-25 season rounds off the list, with Real Madrid citing three separate refereeing performances against Espanyol, in the derby and in Pamplona that they believe wiped out a seven-point lead over Barcelona. Barcelona have consistently denied any wrongdoing in the Negreira case and were recently cleared by the Tax Agency of bribing referees. Perez, though, is not ready to give up.
