Sunderland Are Still In Talks To Sign This Talented Defender Permanently: Good Move For Everyone Involved? In a recent report , Sky Sports claimed that Sunderland are still in talks to sign Lutsharel Geertruida permanently from RB Leipzig this summer. It has been mentioned that the Black Cats are hoping to sign the Dutch talent permanently later this year. Geertruida’s Decent Loan Spell At Sunderland The 25-year-old produced a handful of solid performances for Sunderland in the previous campaign. However, Geertruida failed to score or create a goal in 28 matches for the Black Cats last season in the league. The Dutch talent is currently among the most talented full-backs in his homeland. Hence, the Wearside outfit would do well to sign him permanently in this transfer window. His current contract at his parent club, Red Bull Leipzig, will run out in the summer of 2029. Therefore, the Black Cats would have to make a convincing offer if they want to sign him this off-season. Geertruida can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life for the opposition attackers. He is usually quick to sense the danger and can make the odd interception for his side on the defensive end of the field. The Dutch sensation doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot, but needs to add some goals and assists to his game. Geertruida is primarily a right-back but can also fill in as a central defender if asked to do so by his manager. He has already got some valuable experience in the Premier League and would only get better with each year. We can expect Geertruida to be a real asset in Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris’ match-day squad next season. He is more than capable of challenging for a regular first-team place at the Stadium of Light in the coming seasons. At 25, Geertruida has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a worthy target for the Wearside giants to pursue this summer. He will also help the Black Cats compete across all fronts in the future. Hence, signing Geetruida permanently would be a good move for both the player and the Premier League club this off-season.
