Wrexham's Jones relishing 'massive' European adventure
Lili Jones has made over 100 appearances for Wrexham women [FAW] Midfielder Lili Jones says appearing in Europe for the first time will be "massive" for Wrexham women's team. The Welsh champions will face FC Pyunik of Armenia in the Uefa Women's Champions League on 22 July. Wrexham's men featured in eight Cup Winners Cup campaigns but since their last appearance in 1995 have been ineligible to represent Wales in Europe. "For the lads, it was 31 years since they played in Europe," Jones told BBC Sport Wales. "So for us to be able to do that as a women's side is massive and we're really looking forward to it. "What an opportunity - to play for Wrexham and to represent Wales on that stage is massive and we all know what that means. "We're looking forward to pulling on our shirts and to get a good result." Should Wrexham overcome the Armenian champions in the semi-finals of the first qualifying round mini-tournament, they will neet Northern Ireland's Glentoran or Riga FC of Latvia in the final. The semi-finals will take place on 22 July and the final on 25 July with the hosts for the mini tournament yet to be confirmed. Wrexham won the Genero Adran Premier for the first time in their history last season to secure their place in Europe. "We've worked hard over the off-season and we're back in full swing for pre-season now," Jones added. "The girls, we're looking fit. Everyone's fit." Wales international Maria Francis-Jones joined Wrexham from Adran Premier rivals The New Saints in February. Francis-Jones previously played for Manchester City, Burnley and Sheffield United but will be playing in Europe for the first time. "We're not there to just fill up the numbers - we are there to compete," said the defender. "We want to win and will go in with the mindset of 'we are going to win' as well."
