Walsall sign ex-Sutton midfielder Simper
Walsall have signed midfielder Lewis Simper following the expiry of his contract with National League side Sutton United. The 24-year-old was with Sutton for two seasons, having joined them from Cambridge United, and scored 19 goals in 97 appearances. Simper is Walsall's second signing since the appointment of head coach Lee Grant last month, following the arrival of former Southend United striker Andy Dallas. "I had a zoom call with the gaffer a few weeks ago and as soon as I heard of the interest and his plan going forward I really wanted to get this done – the style of play I feel is really going to suit me and I can't wait to hopefully win lots of games," Simper told the Saddlers' website. Walsall finished 13th in League Two in 2025-26, 13 points outside the play-off places. They will find out their fixtures for next season on Thursday. "He's an exciting player who certainly knows where the goal is and that's been shown during his time at Sutton United," boss Grant added. "He's got bags of energy, gives everything for the team and I'm really looking forward to helping him progress even further because he's hungry to kick on and achieve great things."
