Bristol Rovers sign free-agent defender Kelly

The 27-year-old Irishman was released by the Bantams at the end of the season after 94 appearances in a three-and-a-half-year spell. He was part of the Bradford side that won promotion to League One last season and has previously played in his homeland for the likes of Bohemians, Ballymena United and St Patrick's. "My patience has finally paid off and I am really happy to sign Ciaran," Rovers manager Steve Evans told the club website. "Many times I've thought the lad might be on the move elsewhere and he must have thought I was following him around, given my interest. "Ciaran is a commanding centre-back, a true pro and a real competitor. "He had a variety of options this summer, including some big names in the Scottish Premier League, so I'm delighted he's chosen to join us." Kelly is the sixth new player to join Rovers this summer as Evans looks to rebuild his squad after steering the club to League Two safety last season.
