Update On The Future Of This Manchester City Midfielder: What Should They Do? In a recent post on X , renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano offered an update on the future of Manchester City midfielder Rodri this summer. It has been mentioned that the talks between the Spanish talent and the Mancunian club over a new contract are currently on stand-by. Rodri’s Important Role At Man City Last Season Rodri served as an influential presence in Man City’s match-day squad last season when he put in a string of solid performances for them in the Premier League. The Spain international scored two goals in 33 matches for the Mancunian club in the previous campaign across various competitions. The 30-year-old is currently among the best central midfielders in the Premier League . Hence, it is no surprise that Man City want to tie him down to a new contract. His current deal at the Etihad Stadium will run out at the end of next season. Therefore, the Mancunian giants would have no choice but to let him leave on a free transfer next year if they fail to come to an agreement with him over a new contract. Rodri is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to secure possession back for his side on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when required and is a tidy passer as well from midfield. The Spanish sensation can even chip in by scoring the odd goal for his team. Rodri is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also serve as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so. He has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and remains an important member of Man City’s squad. Therefore, the Mancunian club simply cannot afford to let him leave on a free transfer next summer. At 30, Rodri still has a few good years left in him to play at his best. The Spaniard will also help Man City compete for some major honours over the next few years. Therefore, the Premier League outfit should focus on keeping hold of him beyond next summer by tying him down to a new deal.
