Real Madrid will not return with bid for La Liga forward despite public admission of desire to leave

Real Madrid will not return with bid for La Liga forward despite public admission of desire to leave Immediately after the presidential elections, Florentino Perez and his board made a €150 million bid to Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez. Some interpreted the move to be Perez’s idea to wriggle away from his promise of a  Galactico  signing, while others saw it as a deliberate and engineered move to  prevent Alvarez’s transfer to Barcelona . Ultimately, talks over the player’s departure stalled after that development as  Los Rojiblancos  also made it clear that they do not consider his sale a possibility.  Now, however, matters have resumed in some style as Alvarez himself came out to speak and admit his wish to leave his club after Argentina’s game last night. “The best thing for me is a transfer, and I want to fulfil my dream,”  he told the media after the game, as reported by  Fabrizio Romano . (Photo by Florencia Tan Jun/Getty Images) With Alvarez publicly announcing his desire to leave Atletico Madrid, some fingers immediately pointed to Real Madrid as they were the club to have the largest offer for the player rejected. Guillermo Rai via  The Athletic , however, confirms that the club have no such intention around the Argentine star. Real Madrid, thus, will not return to the race to sign Alvarez despite his comments of wanting a departure. The door is closer and is unlikely to open anytime in the future, given the squad depth. A puzzling move to begin with Over the years, Real Madrid have seldom ever communicated details of a rejected deal as openly as they communicated their move with Alvarez, and it certainly raises some eyebrows. Perez played a masterstroke. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images) Perez was indeed under pressure to send an offer for a  Galactico  before the deadline, and it somehow appears that he conspired with Atletico Madrid to use their player’s name to kill two birds with one stone. After all, that, the development made it clear that he sent an offer for a  Galactico immediately after winning but also ensured that Barcelona will have to pay at least €150 million to sign Alvarez. That number, needless to say, is something the Catalans must ponder deeply given their situation. From Real Madrid’s perspective, there is simply no room for a new centre-forward in any capacity. The only attacking position that can accept a  Galactico  signing is the right wing.
