Barcelona expect defensive duo to stay despite openness to offers Barcelona are expected to focus most of their efforts on strengthening the attack this summer, with the club increasingly convinced that major defensive changes will not be necessary before the new season begins. Despite being open to evaluating significant offers for certain players, the reality within the club is that some of Hansi Flick’s most trusted defenders have no intention of leaving.  In that regard, according to an update from SPORT , both Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde are expected to remain at the club, with neither player considering an exit despite growing competition for places across the defensive line. (Photo by David Ramos/Getty Images) The left-back ended last season behind Joao Cancelo in the pecking order after the Portuguese defender established himself as an important option under Hansi Flick.  Right now, Barcelona are working to secure Cancelo on a permanent basis from Al Hilal.  Furthermore, competition on the left side could become even stronger following Barcelona’s pursuit of highly-rated youngster Jorge Salinas , another player viewed as a long-term investment for the position. Even so, Balde remains calm about his situation because the academy graduate, whose contract runs until 2028, believes he has what it takes to win back a regular starting role.  What about Kounde? Although the French international did not enjoy the same level of consistency that defined his previous campaign, Barcelona continue to regard him as an important member of the squad. Despite the evident injury problems that interrupted his rhythm last season, there is growing belief that he is rediscovering his best form while representing France under Didier Deschamps at the World Cup. Most importantly for Barcelona, Kounde has no desire to consider offers from elsewhere, as he intends to honour his contract and continue competing for an important role under Flick.
