EA Guingamp player passes away after drowning amid heatwave in France At least 40 people have drowned in France since 18th June, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced. It comes amid an historic heatwave in the country.  Kenzo Kies, formerly of AS Saint-Étienne and under contract at Ligue 2 side EA Guingamp at the time of his death, has passed away after drowning in the Rhone River on Monday. He was pulled out of the water and was in a state of brain death until passing away on Wednesday. The news was confirmed by Guingamp, with his former club, Saint-Étienne, also expressing their condolences.  Kies played for Olympique Lyonnais at youth level before going to AS Saint-Priest. He was at ASSE between 2018 and 2025. He joined Guingamp last summer. He did not make a first-team appearance, instead featuring for the club’s reserve side. On Monday, he was swimming with three friends, who were saved by the emergency services. They were swimming in a dangerous area in which another man died back in 2025. GFFN | Luke Entwistle
