Northampton sign experienced defender Donacien

Northampton Town have signed former Ipswich Town defender Janoi Donacien on a one-year contract. The St Lucia international has moved to Sixfields after an 18-month spell at Chesterfield, where he made 33 appearances. The 32-year-old began his career in the youth ranks at Aston Villa and moved to Accrington Stanley in 2016 before joining Ipswich in 2019 following an initial loan spell at Portman Road. He was a regular member of the Ipswich side that won promotion from League One in 2023, but only played three games in the Championship the next season before joining Chesterfield as a free agent in January 2025. "Janoi is a player I know well," said Northampton manager Chris Hogg. "He is in a good place physically and he is ready to kick on and help us move forward." Following last season's relegation, the Cobblers will start life in League Two at home to Swindon Town on 15 August. Find all the latest football transfers on our dedicated page
