Derry City beat Drogheda to win on Brandywell return

Tiernan Lynch's side had played at Celtic Park, the home of Derry GAA, since the end of April while a new grass-hybrid pitch was installed at the Brandywell. But it was a victorious return home for the Candystripes as Cameron Dummigan's superb first half goal and Adam O'Reilly's injury-time effort secured the three points. James McClean's corner in the 28th minute was only cleared to the edge of the area and former Northern Ireland international Dummigan took a touch and curled a delighted effort into the top corner. Chances were at a premium for both sides but Derry wrapped up the three points in injury time when Michael Duffy raced into the area from Brandon Fleming's through ball, and the home captain played the ball across for O'Reilly to tuck home. A sixth league win of the season for Derry eases some pressure on under-pressure Lynch, and the hosts remain in sixth place in the table. Drogheda United stay in eighth and are seven points off the Candystripes but have two games in hand over Derry. Elsewhere on Friday, leaders Shamrock Rovers defeated Galway United 3-1, Waterford battled past Dundalk 3-2 and Bohemians secured a 2-0 win over St. Patrick's Athletic.
