Real Madrid closing in on €600 million revenue in academy player sales in the past two decades

Real Madrid closing in on €600 million revenue in academy player sales in the past two decades Real Madrid have made La Fabrica one of the primary revenue streams over the years, especially given the relatively low conversion rate of academy stars into first-team successes. Given their policy of signing star players, Los Blancos have seldom had to dig deep into the academy pool to find players to provide cover. Needless to say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and such players often have great demand outside the club, helping Real Madrid gain on a financial level. They further maintain some degree of control over most academy graduates’ futures and often even an option to bring them back home if need be. A special number As reported by AS in a recent report, Real Madrid are set to hit a special number on that front, especially with the moves of Victor Munoz to Liverpool and Nico Paz to Como. Nico Paz will sign for Como in €60m deal. (Photo by Marco Luzzani/Getty Images) Munoz’s transfer to Liverpool and the €20 million it profited Real Madrid take the club’s overall La Fabrica sales figures from 2005 to a staggering €488.5 million. Adding the €60 million that Como will pay for Paz’s rights takes that number to €548.5 million, just from the sale of academy players from 2005. And now, Florentino Perez’s target is to take that number beyond the €600 million mark at the earliest. Operations in progress While the €600 million number sounds elusive, it is well within the club’s reach as early as the ongoing summer transfer window. After all, Los Blancos are now prioritising departures to balance the books. Gonzalo Garcia could leave this summer. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images) Of the players linked with a departure are Fran Garcia and Gonzalo Garcia, both of whom are academy products and whose transfer fee will add to the tally. Both players, further, are very likely to leave the club this summer and there is talk of a possible €40 million from the striker’s departure and €20 million for the defender. There is also the case of Raul Asencio, whom Jose Mourinho reportedly does not count on. The club value him at close to €25 million, and the sale of the three aforementioned players for the respective sums could well help the club cross the €600 million mark.
