The 30-year-old centre-back made 95 appearances and scored four goals in his three seasons at Tynecastle, and played 25 times in the last campaign as Hearts were pipped to the Scottish Premiership title. Kent began his career with Colchester United where he played 141 times before making 149 league appearances in four seasons with Peterborough United. After his release by the Edinburgh side this summer, Kent becomes the first signing since former Arsenal and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey became the U's head coach. "I understand the demands of this league and I return to England a much better player and leader following three fantastic years in Scotland," Kent told the club website. Ramsey added: "I had very positive conversations with the club before arriving about the business we wanted to complete this summer, and I'm delighted we've moved quickly to bring in a player of Frankie's quality and character."
