Liverpool contract talks for 'skilful' star confirmed
Liverpool contract talks for 'skilful' star confirmed Richard Hughes probably already has an idea about what he thinks Liverpool's 2026-27 summer transfer window will look like. But, as the last couple of days have shown, things can change within minutes in football, especially if your transfer target is one of the most sought-after players in the world. For most of the second half of the 2025-26 season, it felt nailed on that Yan Diomande was going to join Liverpool with the Ivorian even mentioning how much of an honour it would be for him to play for the Reds. Liverpool clearly made him their number one priority this summer but, now, it looks like he's headed to Paris Saint-Germain which has left the Reds in a bit of a pickle. Of course, other options can be explored but, for Liverpool to make meaningful moves, they'll need to generate some funds which is why some of their first-team squad have already been linked with moves away. Curtis Jones' contract talks with Liverpool will be opened up again if he stays at Anfield this summer Of all Andoni Iraola's players, Curtis Jones feels like the most likely player to exit . The Englishman was treated rather unfairly by Arne Slot in the 2025-26 season with most of his playing time coming as a right-back. That is, despite the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister performing rather poorly. This lack of playing time led to him seeking an exit with Inter Milan being the most interest team in signing him. But, since he only has a year left on his current contract, questions about what his future holds and whether he'll get a new deal have started to emerge. And now, an update from Ben Jacobs has clarified Jones' situation even more. " Curtis Jones is a target for Nottingham Forest," he wrote. "Liverpool aware of the Forest interest as Vitor Pereira’s side look to strengthen in the centre of the park following the £116m departure of Elliot Anderson. "Inter recently saw a £21.5m approach instantly shut down. "Liverpool value Jones in the region of £40m, and it is unclear whether Forest are prepared to go that high. "Liverpool are content to keep hold of Jones if their asking price is not met. "Jones is heading into the final year of his contract but should he remain beyond this summer, talks over a new contract are not ruled out. "Forest also have Spurs’ Lucas Bergvall high in their thinking. The Swedish midfielder has asked the club to leave as he seeks a new challenge." Liverpool should keep Curtis Jones no matter what Even if Liverpool were to get £40 million for Jones , it still wouldn't be enough for how good of a player he is. The Englishman is often one of the hardest-working players on the pitch when used and, without him this season, Liverpool could've ended up even worse off than they found themselves. Indeed, the fact that he played as a right-back won't really convince him to stay but, if Liverpool end up signing a new full-back or two and end up getting rid of someone such as Mac Allister, he could easily be convinced to stay put. The Reds' depth is already minimal as it is so, selling the " skilful " midfielder would probably hurt them a lot more than people think. Jones is also only 25 years old so, at the moment, he's in the prime of his career and still has time to develop into an even better player which is why, even for £40 million, Liverpool can't sanction his exit.
