Patten agrees deal to keep him at Newport
Keenan Patten is a former Cardiff City youngster [Huw Evans Picture Agency] Midfielder Keenan Patten is to stay at Newport County after agreeing a new short-team deal at the League Two club. Former Barry Town player Patten, 25, has made only six Newport appearances – including just one start – since joining the club in February 2025. He had been due to become a free agent this summer, but will now remain with the Exiles. Newport have not specified the length of Patten's contract, but say he is hoping to "reignite his career at Rodney Parade following a challenging spell with injury". After he broke a leg last July, Patten's only senior football in 2025-26 came during a loan spell at Barry. Patten's new deal follows the signing of ex-Bromley defender Kyle Cameron , former Blackpool defender Dan Sassi , and forwards Christian Doidge and Yahya Bamba - both ex-Forest Green - and Shaquille Gwengwe (Poole Town) from non-league. Defenders Cameron Norman and Cameron Evans have also signed new deals, along with midfielder Harrison Biggins. Michael Spellman , Bobby Kamwa and captain Matt Baker have all left the club, while seven other players were not offered new contracts. County, who returned to pre-season training on Monday, 29 June, are also looking for a new manger, with Chris Todd in interim charge following the departure of Christian Fuchs.
