Barcelona secure a 20% future sell-on clause on La Masia graduate following recent exit Ansu Fati’s gradual fall from superstardom was not easy for the Barcelona faithful to witness, especially after how the player was initially touted to be the next big thing in La Masia . An untimely knee injury, however, ended all of his dreams of making it big in Catalonia. Both the player and the club made efforts to continue working in tandem, but the deal never worked out as the player could not make a case for regular minutes. Last night, the club made Fati’s departure official as Monaco opted to utilise their clause to make his move permanent. His loan stint at the club was far from a failure, and the Ligue 1 side shelled out €11 million to make his move permanent. A hidden clause In their official announcement of Fati’s departure, Barcelona made it known that they still maintained some rights of the player in the form of a percentage of any future sale. Now, as reported by Mundo Deportivo , Barcelona have reserved 20% of a future sale of Fati. Needless to say, that is a decent holding on the talented youngster, but the club could have done better to retain more. Nevertheless, all that the Catalans will focus on is the weight lifted off their shoulders in terms of the salary burden. A chance to fly again Fati has not had it easy since suffering the gruesome knee injury years ago, but he has worked incredibly hard to return to elite football. The youngster has made a big economic effort to sign for Monaco and has taken a considerable drop in his wages. He is now contractually bound to the club until 2030, and one hopes their faith in him pays off. Last season, the 23-year-old made 25 league appearances and ten starts for them in the domestic competition. He scored eleven goals in that period, with three big chances created in the process.
