Atletico Madrid disregard Laporta’s comments on Julian Alvarez and stick to their position
Atletico Madrid disregard Laporta’s comments on Julian Alvarez and stick to their position Atletico Madrid have no intention of changing their stance on Julian Alvarez despite Barcelona president Joan Laporta publicly reaffirming the club’s interest in signing the Argentine forward, reports Mundo Deportivo . While Laporta revealed that Barcelona’s offer remains on the table, Atletico have chosen not to respond publicly and insist that their position remains exactly the same: Alvarez is not for sale, and the club’s complaint against the Blaugrana will continue. Laporta reveals details of Barcelona’s offer During his appearance before the media after his presidential inauguration ceremony, Laporta confirmed that he had personally discussed the situation concerning Alvarez with Atletico Madrid. He explained that sporting director Deco had submitted a formal offer for the striker and stressed that Barcelona had acted respectfully throughout the process. “I’ve spoken personally with Atletico Madrid and made the situation clear. Deco made an offer for a certain amount for this player,” he said . Laporta revealed he had spoken to Atletico over Alvarez. He added that Barcelona would keep the proposal on the table for as long as they considered appropriate, but would not wait indefinitely. Laporta also emphasised that Barcelona continue to have great respect for Atletico president Enrique Cerezo and CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin, describing the relationship between the clubs as positive both institutionally and personally. Laporta also rejected suggestions that Barcelona had encouraged the situation surrounding Alvarez. He argued that the forward’s recent comments about wanting to fulfil his dream of joining a different club came entirely from the player himself. Sources at the Metropolitano indicated that the club will not enter into a public debate over the Barcelona president’s remarks. Instead, Atletico intend to continue following the strategy they have maintained from the beginning. The first part of the Rojiblancos’ position has not changed. The club insist that Alvarez is not for sale and remains a key part of Diego Simeone’s plans for next season. On top of that, Atleti also insist they will continue with the formal complaint already filed with both FIFA and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
