Barcelona 20-year-old academy prospect set for Girona move – report FC Barcelona midfielder Brian Farinas is close to leaving the club this summer, with Girona emerging as his most likely destination, as per a report from Mundo Deportivo . Following Barça Atletic’s failure to secure promotion and another season in Spain’s Segunda RFEF , significant changes to the squad are expected, and the 20-year-old Farinas appears set to become one of the latest departures . Girona leading the race As per the report, the 20-year-old La Masia midfielder is nearing a move to Girona. One of Barça Atletic’s captains last season, Farinas believes his time with the reserve side has come to an end and wants to continue his development at a higher competitive level. The exact structure of the deal remains undecided. Girona are considering either a season-long loan or a permanent transfer. Farinas is under contract with Barcelona until 2028, giving the Catalan club flexibility in negotiations. A bright spot in a difficult season Although Barça Atletic endured a disappointing campaign collectively, Farinas, who joined La Masia from Villarreal back in 2018, was widely regarded as one of the team’s standout performers. His performances also earned him opportunities to train with Hansi Flick’s first-team squad, where the Barcelona coach was able to assess his potential firsthand. Barça have already parted ways with a number of players from the reserve team this summer, with Ander Astralaga, Emilio Bernad, Victor Barbera, Oscar Urena, and Joaquin Delgado all leaving.  Diego Kochen is also set to finalise a loan move to Danish club Lyngby. Now, Farinas could follow suit with a move to Girona on the cards. More exits from Barça Atletic could be on the horizon, with the likes of Toni Fernandez and Guille Fernandez also attracting strong interest this summer, while Jofre Torrents could also be on the move.
