Tottenham Hotspur Are Set To Win The Race For This West Ham United Midfielder: Good Choice For De Zerbi? In a recent post on X , respected journalist David Ornstein claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to win the race for West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes. It has been mentioned that Spurs have submitted a bid in the region of £85m to bring the Portuguese talent to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer. Fernandes’ Impressive Form In English Football Fernandes enjoyed a good run of form at the London club in the previous campaign when he put in a string of impressive displays for them in the middle of the park. The Portuguese youngster made 42 appearances for West Ham last season, scoring five times and earning five assists in all competitions. The 21-year-old is currently one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League . Thus, Spurs would do well to bring him on board in this transfer window. His current deal at the London Stadium was set to run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for Tottenham to sign him on the cheap later this year. Fernandes is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and is a good passer as well. The Portuguese talent can chip in by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team from midfield. Fernandes is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a defensive midfielder or as an attacking midfielder if told to do so. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Tottenham. We can expect Fernandes to bring more quality and depth to Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi’s midfield. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season. At 21, the future looks quite bright for Fernandes as long as he continues to improve with each year. All in all, he would be an excellent choice for Spurs to pursue this off-season.
