The Black Cats have announced that the English full-back has penned a new, two-year deal to stay at the Wearside club beyond this summer. Jones’ Rise In English Football Jones has come through the youth ranks of Sunderland but is yet to make a senior appearance for them. The English talent has managed to shine at times with his performances for the Wearside club’s Under-21 team. The 20-year-old has made 63 appearances for them so far, scoring three times and earning eight assists in the process across various competitions. Jones is currently among the most gifted young full-backs in English football. Thus, Sunderland have done well to retain his services beyond this summer. The English talent has got the ceiling to be a future star at the Stadium of Light in the long run. Thus, it seems like a no-brainer for them to extend his contract this off-season. Jones loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to make the odd interception for his team on the defensive end of the pitch. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and can make some driving runs with the ball as well. The English sensation is primarily a right-back but can also play as a central midfielder or as a left-back if told to do so by his manager. He is on the brink of breaking into Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris’ first team. Therefore, it seems like a good move for the Black Cats to extend his contract this summer. However, Jones is still quite raw and might need some time to adapt to the Premier League if Le Bris opts to call upon his services next season. The English prospect will also benefit from getting his long-term future sorted so that he can focus on improving as a footballer on the field. At 20, Jones has got a bright future ahead of him. Hence, his contract extension will be a good move for both the player and the Wearside club ahead of the new campaign.
