The 33-year-old has signed from Rangers for an undisclosed fee on a two-year contract, with the option of an additional 12 months, as Sergej Jakirovic begins strengthening his squad for the Tigers' return to the top flight following a nine-year absence. The nine-time England international played every minute of Rangers' 2025-26 Scottish Premiership campaign, making 55 appearances in all competitions, and leaves Ibrox after three seasons and 157 matches. He won the Scottish League Cup during his first season with Rangers and was named both the club's Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year. Before moving to Scotland, Butland spent seven years at Stoke City, making 77 Premier League appearances, and also featured in the top flight for Crystal Palace. Butland became England's youngest-ever goalkeeper when he made his senior debut in 2012 at the age of 19. "I'm delighted it's all sorted now and I'm really excited to be here," Butland told the club website. "The Premier League is the best league in the world and, personally, it's a great opportunity to be on the biggest stage again. I believe it's the level I'm capable of playing at, and I've done it before." Hull secured promotion to the Premier League by beating Middlesbrough 1-0 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley in May. This week Hull sold goalkeeper Ivor Pandur - to Rangers - and midfielder Aidon Shehu before Tuesday's deadline to avoid the threat of a points deduction under profit and sustainability regulations. Butland's arrival is the first addition of what is expected to be a busy summer at the MKM Stadium.
