Damallsvenskan: Malmö FF sign Iceland international Hlín Eiríksdóttir from Leicester City Malmö FF have signed Icelandic star Hlín Eiríksdóttir from Women’s Super League side Leicester City. The winger spent a season-and-a-half in the Midlands before moving to Italian side Fiorentina on a loan move. The 26-year-old, who has represented Iceland more than 50 times, comes with a wealth of experience in European football. Eiríksdóttir has previously represented Kristianstads DFF, Piteå IF and Valur. Malmö FF currently sit third in the Damallsvenskan, equal on points with AIK and chasing Hammarby and BK Häcken FF respectively. Eiríksdóttir admits it was an easy decision to choose Malmö. “There were too many reasons why I should choose Malmö FF for me not to do so. It is a huge and cool club with great conditions and facilities. I like the way the team plays football, I have a pretty good idea after talking to the coaches and watching a few matches.” A return to Swedish football for Eiríksdóttir Malmö will be the third Swedish club Eiríksdóttir has represented, a deciding factor in her decision to move. “It also feels very good to move to Sweden. I had great periods in both Piteå and Kristianstads and I think this move suits me well. It is tough and there are many even matches, I really like that,” she said. The top three teams in Sweden also qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League , and with Malmö pushing for third it’s an exciting time to be a part of the club.
