Al-Sadd fail in swoop for Marseille’s Nayef Aguerd
Al-Sadd fail in swoop for Marseille’s Nayef Aguerd Qatari club Al-Sadd have failed in their attempts to sign Olympique de Marseille defender Nayef Aguerd (30), as per a report from Foot Mercato. Marseille need to sell players this summer. Whilst the Ligue 1 club avoided a ban from European football, action must be taken in order to avoid a European ban the following season. UEFA confirmed the decision on Wednesday. Aguerd, who had an injury-hit campaign at the Vélodrome, could be one of several players to leave OM. It was revealed by Foot Mercato last month that the Morocco international has a €15m release clause included in his contract. It is a sum that Al-Sadd were not able to pay, despite entering into talks with OM over the defender, Foot Mercato understands. In their attempts to complete a deal, the Qatari club also hypothesised the inclusion of former AS Monaco midfielder Mohamed Camara in the transfer, but without success. GFFN | Luke Entwistle
