Napoli appoint Allegri as Conte's successor

The 58-year-old replaces Antonio Conte, who left the Serie A club at the end of May after two seasons in charge, having guided Napoli to the 2024-25 league title before last season's second-place finish. Allegri, who was sacked by Milan at the end of last season, returns to the club where he briefly played during the 1997-98 season. Napoli had been waiting for Allegri to resolve the termination of his Milan contract before completing the move. One of Italy's most decorated coaches, Allegri won the Serie A title with Milan in 2011 before enjoying a trophy-laden first spell at Juventus. Between 2014 and 2019 he guided the Turin club to five consecutive Serie A titles, four successive Coppa Italia triumphs and two Italian Super Cups, while also reaching the Champions League final in 2015 and 2017. He returned to Juventus in 2021 and lifted a fifth Coppa Italia in 2024 before taking charge of Milan for a second spell for the 2025-26 campaign. Conte to leave Napoli a year after winning Serie A However, his return to the San Siro lasted only one season. Milan dismissed Allegri having missed out on Champions League qualification after finishing fifth, following a run of two wins in their final eight league matches. His departure formed part of a wider restructuring at the club, with sporting director Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada and chief executive Giorgio Furlani also leaving. Across his managerial career, Allegri has won six Serie A titles, five Coppa Italia trophies and three Italian Super Cups, while twice being named Serie A Coach of the Year.
