Confirmed: Barcelona secure teenage striker’s future with new contract until 2028
Confirmed: Barcelona secure teenage striker’s future with new contract until 2028 FC Barcelona have officially announced the contract renewal of academy striker Oscar Gistau, who has signed a new deal running until 2028, with the club holding the option to extend it for an additional year. The agreement follows reports from June that the Catalan side intended to secure the future of one of La Masia’s most highly rated attacking prospects. “FC Barcelona and Oscar Gistau have reached an agreement to extend the striker’s contract, which will keep him at the Club until June 30, 2028. The agreement also includes the option to extend the contract for another season,” the club statement read. Gistau’s previous contract was due to expire in June 2027, and he will now remain at the club until 2028, with an option for extending it by another year. Barcelona believe in Gistau Despite suffering several injury setbacks over the past two seasons, Barcelona continue to view Gistau as the academy’s striker with the highest long-term potential. The 18-year-old is regarded as a modern centre-forward, combining excellent finishing ability with intelligent movement and an aggressive approach to attacking space behind defences. After overcoming muscular injuries, Gistau ended the last campaign on a positive note with Barcelona’s Juvenil A side. His performances convinced the club that, provided he can remain fit, he is ready to make a significant impact with Barça Atletic during the upcoming season. Pre-season with Hansi Flick Barça Atletic coach Juliano Belletti is expected to have two outstanding options at centre-forward next season: Gistau and Hamza Abdelkarim, who is currently representing Egypt at the World Cup. Both young strikers are also scheduled to begin pre-season training with Hansi Flick and the first-team squad. The German coach wants to assess two of the academy’s most promising forwards up close, particularly as Barça have yet to complete the signing of Robert Lewandowski’s long-term successor. That uncertainty could create opportunities for both youngsters to earn minutes with the senior team during pre-season. Barcelona will begin pre-season on 13 July, even though the World Cup will still be in progress. As a result, several academy players, including Gistau, could receive extended opportunities during the opening weeks of pre-season to impress Flick and stake their claim for involvement with the first team.
