Tonali exit 'probably a positive'

[Getty Images] Former Sunderland striker Marco Gabbiadini says rivals Newcastle selling Sandro Tonali to Tottenham in a deal worth up to £100m is "probably a positive thing" for the Magpies. Eddie Howe's side have effectively needed to trade to reinvest with Alexander Isak, Antony Gordon and now Tonali all leaving the club in the space of less than a year. "Newcastle have had an issue for a number of years with the financial situation and selling players for that value, and replacing them with younger players, will make a huge change to their squad cost ratio," Gabbiadini told BBC Radio Newcastle. "It's probably a positive thing in many respects but it all hinges on what they do in this window, who they get in, and how they react to this move. "It's sad for the fans because you get attached to players but the reaction will only play out when you see who starts the season for you." Listen to the full chat below or on BBC Sounds
