Oxlade-Chamberlain signs new one-year Celtic deal

England-capped midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has signed a new one-year contract with Celtic. The 32-year-old had joined the Glasgow club in February following six months out of football after Besiktas terminated his contract. He made a goalscoring debut with a last-minute winner against Livingston and went on to make 12 Celtic appearances. Seven of them were as a substitute, but Oxlade-Chamberlain played his part in their revival under then interim manager Martin O'Neill as they retained the title with a final-day victory over long-time leaders Heart of Midlothian and lifted the Scottish Cup. And that was enough for O'Neill to hand him an extended stay after the Northern Irishman was given the job permanently. The growing appeal of Scottish Premiership talent Celtic's lack of signings stretches fan patience Oxlade-Chamberlain's partner, Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards, had gone public on social media about her desire for an extended stay with Celtic and Scotland and the player himself expressed his delight about his new deal on the club website. "It was an incredible time last season and to be part of that success in winning the league and Scottish Cup was so special," he said. "I'm really excited to be back and I'm looking forward to meeting up with the boys and getting to work ahead of what will hopefully be another successful season." O'Neill's squad head out to Ireland this weekend before their first pre-season match against Shelbourne on Tuesday. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, capped 35 times and who played for Southampton, Arsenal and Liverpool, will then join up at their training camp in Portugal.
