Mbokazi agent confirms ‘Napoli strong interest’ in Chicago Fire and South Africa talent The agent representing South Africa international defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi confirms ‘there is strong interest from Napoli’ for the Chicago Fire player. The centre-back will not turn 21 until September, but impressed for his country at the 2026 World Cup and has already amassed 14 senior caps for South Africa. MLS club Chicago Fire purchased him from Orlando Pirates in January 2026 for €2.5m, but he could already be on the move again towards Serie A. However, the Chicago Fire want to sell the player and are working hard on this front. “If the two clubs can reach an agreement, then playing for Napoli is certainly feasible. I am also aware that there are rumours on Belgian, German and Italian clubs, but so far nothing concrete and no contact with the Chicago Fire.” The agent was also pressed on some rumours that the Premier League could come calling for the services of Mbokazi this summer after his strong performances at the World Cup. “I heard about Brentford and Nottingham Forest, but we are waiting for some concrete interest, not just calls to ask for information,” replied the representative. Napoli had intended to bring in Mario Gila from Lazio, however they must first make sales, and were out-bid by Milan at a cost of €25m plus add-ons. Mbokazi is under contract with the Chicago Fire until December 2029, although the MLS side does have an option to extend for one more year.
