Report: Arsenal are no longer pushing to sign World Cup star Arsenal Transfer Latest: Ayyoub Bouaddi No Longer Priority for Mikel Arteta Arsenal supporters have heard plenty of noise around Ayyoub Bouaddi, but the current picture looks far less advanced than some reports suggested. According to Caught Offside, the idea that Arsenal are ready to accept Lille’s terms does not presently stack up. The key line is clear enough: “I don’t have it confirmed that Arsenal are going ahead with a deal for Bouaddi.” That matters, because too much transfer coverage treats early contact as if it were an agreement in principle. It is not. Arsenal may admire the player, and the report adds that “there has been contact in the past, yes, and there is a strong appreciation for the player”, but admiration and execution are very different things. Photo IMAGO Ayyoub Bouaddi Deal Stalls Over Arsenal Timing The issue appears to be structure and timing. Lille want to keep Bouaddi for another season. Arsenal want a midfielder who can help now. Those two positions do not align. The report states that “Lille’s desire to keep the Morocco international for one more season does not suit Arsenal”, which is about as direct as it gets. There is also a firm pushback on claims of a compromise arrangement. As reported, “it’s not accurate that they’ve agreed to any kind of a deal to loan him back there or to sign him in 2027.” That effectively cools the story for now. It also sounds as though cost is a factor. To prise Bouaddi away immediately would require what the report describes as “crazy money”, and Arsenal’s view is straightforward, there is better value elsewhere. That is a sensible approach in a market that inflates quickly once a club is seen to be desperate. Bruno Guimaraes and Alex Scott Move Into Focus If Bouaddi has slipped down the agenda, other names have moved up it. Arsenal have had “more recent contact over both Bruno Guimaraes and Alex Scott.” Those are very different profiles, but both fit a more immediate need than waiting until 2027. Guimaraes is the bigger play. Newcastle have already rejected a bid “thought to be in the region of £55m-60m”, and there has been “no second bid at the time of writing.” Even so, Arsenal reportedly remain confident they can still make an offer that works. That suggests the door is not closed. Photo IMAGO Scott looks more complicated. Bournemouth have reportedly made it plain that “he’s not for sale”, while contract talks are also part of the equation. Add Chelsea interest and the price climbs, if a price even exists. Arsenal Transfer Strategy Remains Disciplined This is the more interesting part of the story. Arsenal are not behaving like a club chasing headlines. The report says “Arsenal remain confident in their transfer strategy and won’t over-spend even if prices are looking majorly inflated this summer.” That is the correct stance, especially after seeing players’ valuations distorted by panic and competition. The same logic applied to Jeremy Monga. Arsenal “were not so obsessed with the idea of signing Jeremy Monga”, with Manchester City now set to land him for “over £10m.” Arsenal felt “this was excessive” and will proceed only when they are “100% sure represent value for money.” That is blunt, rational squad building. No panic, no vanity, no bidding war for the sake of appearances. Our View From an Arsenal fan perspective, this all sounds perfectly reasonable. Bouaddi is clearly talented, but if Lille want to keep him for another season and still charge a premium now, Arsenal should walk away. Simple. This squad needs players who can contribute straight away, not expensive arrangements built around someone else’s timetable. There is also a bigger point here. For years, fans complained when Arsenal looked soft in the market, either overpaying or drifting through windows without conviction. This feels different. If the club genuinely believes there is “better value elsewhere”, then good. Stick to that. Do not let hype dictate recruitment. Guimaraes would be a statement signing because he improves the first XI immediately. Alex Scott is more complicated, but at least there is logic there too, age, profile, technical quality, room to grow. Bouaddi may yet become a top player, and maybe the situation changes later in the summer, but Arsenal should not be boxed into a bad deal because other people want the story to move faster. The best part of this report is the final tone. “There is no panic despite other clubs spending big and making a fast start to the summer.” That is exactly what Arsenal fans should want to hear. Spend well, not loudly. If that means missing one or two fashionable names, so be it. Source: Caught Offside
