Real Madrid change plans for summer signing after top target snub
Real Madrid change plans for summer signing after top target snub Real Madrid have already signed up four new players this summer, and the expectation has been that more will arrive at the Bernabeu for the 2026-27 season and beyond. However, club bosses have been stonewalled in their efforts to improve Jose Mourinho’s squad, particularly when it comes to midfield target Enzo Fernandez. In recent weeks, Real Madrid have been strongly linked with Fernandez, who is reportedly the top midfield target for Mourinho. However, a summer deal has now been ruled out after the club strongly denied plans to sign the Argentina international , which they did to ensure that supporters did not get false hope . Interestingly, Sport have now reported that Real Madrid pulled out of the race to sign Fernandez after deeming Chelsea’s demands to be excessive. The Premier League side were asking for around €140m to sell the 25-year-old, and Bernabeu were not prepared to come anywhere close to this figure, despite the fact that they have money to spend this summer. Real Madrid unlikely to pursue Fernandez alternative Furthermore, the report has claimed that Real Madrid are not planning to sign anyone in place of Fernandez, and thus, it is almost certain that no new midfielder – aside from the already-signed Bernardo Silva – will be heading to the Spanish capital this summer. There is no doubt that not signing a new midfielder is a risk for Real Madrid, given the problems they have had in that area over the last two seasons. Their decision not to replace Toni Kroos, and to a lesser extent Luka Modric, came back to bite them in significant fashion, so it was expected that they would finally make their move in 2026, although that no longer appears to be the case. It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid make any more signings this summer. A new centre-back should arrive, although that could be that, given that a midfielder is no longer on the cards.
