Nottingham Forest confirm Oliver Glasner as new head coach  Nottingham Forest have officially appointed Oliver Glasner as their new head coach following the departure of Vitor Pereira. The Austrian arrives at the City Ground after emerging as Forest’s preferred choice to lead the club into a new era under owner Evangelos Marinakis. Forest had been in advanced talks with Glasner before Pereira confirmed his exit last week, and the appointment has now been finalised. Glasner had been out of work since leaving Crystal Palace after the expiry of his contract earlier this year. The 51-year-old established himself as one of Europe’s most highly regarded coaches during successful spells in Germany and England. After taking charge of Crystal Palace in February 2024, Glasner guided the south London club to the first major trophy in their history by winning the FA Cup. He followed that success by lifting the Community Shield before leading Palace to UEFA Conference League glory. Prior to his move to England, Glasner enjoyed an impressive spell in Germany. He secured Champions League qualification with Wolfsburg before guiding Eintracht Frankfurt to the Europa League title in 2022, ending the club’s 42-year wait for a major European trophy. Forest believe that winning pedigree makes him the ideal man to oversee their ambitious project. Speaking after his appointment, Glasner revealed the club’s long-term vision convinced him to accept the role. “It was evident they have a clear vision for this football club,” Glasner said . “The trust they showed in me and my staff, together with the potential within the squad, made this an easy decision.” The Austrian also highlighted Forest’s rich history and insisted he is eager to begin work immediately. “My focus is now on meeting the players and preparing for pre-season,” he added. Marinakis believes Glasner possesses all the qualities required to take Forest to the next level. “Our ambition is not simply to compete,” the Forest owner said. “Our ambition is to win and challenge for major honours.” He described Glasner as a proven winner whose leadership and attacking style of football perfectly match the club’s aspirations. The appointment comes after another period of upheaval at the City Ground. Glasner becomes Forest’s fifth permanent head coach in less than 12 months following spells under Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Pereira. Pereira steadied the club after his arrival, guiding Forest to Premier League survival and the Europa League semi-finals before unexpectedly leaving earlier this month. Glasner’s first match in charge will come during pre-season against Notts County on July 18. Forest will now hope the Austrian can bring stability, attractive football and sustained success as the club looks to establish itself among the Premier League’s leading sides once again.
