PSV set to strengthen bid to retain title with signing of AZ Alkmaar midfield star PSV have, much to the concern of any Eredivisie title rivals, appear to be adding another star player to their squad ahead of the new season. AZ Alkmaar’s star midfielder and captain from last season, Sven Mijnans, is reportedly swapping AZ for PSV and will undergo a medical on Monday. VI also states that Mijnans will cost PSV around €15m Euros. Mijnans came through the Sparta Rotterdam system before making his debut during the 2020/2021 season. He went on to play 86 games for the side, with eight goals, before joining AZ in January of 2023. He has been a consistently top performing central midfielder in the Dutch top flight for some time, but last season was a real breakout campaign. After 11 goals and eight assists during the 2024/2025 campaign, Mijnans played 50 games for AZ during the 2025/2026 season, scoring an impressive 21 goals from midfield, while also providing nine assists. PSV have lost Ismael Saibari to Bayern Munich, but in Mijnans they are replacing some of those goals lost while also adding another talented player to a team that ran away with the Eredivisie last season. Ajax were also said to be interested, and its certainly a blow for the Amsterdam club to see the 26-year-old join PSV instead. GBeNeFN  |  Ben Jackson
