Nicolò Tresoldi tops Roma shortlist for Donyell Malen understudy
Nicolò Tresoldi tops Roma shortlist for Donyell Malen understudy As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport , Roma want Club Brugge forward Nicolò Tresoldi as a back-up for star forward Donyell Malen. The Cagliari-born Germany U21 international is on the top of Gian Piero Gasperini’s shortlist for players he want up top to support the flying Dutchman, with Sassuolo’s Andrea Pinamonti and Nantes’ Matthis Abline also linked with a move to Olimpico. Tresoldi is coming off a coming-of-age debut season with Club Brugge, which saw him register 23 goals and nine assists in 53 appearances across all competitions. Any move for Tresoldi will hinge on whether Roma are able to move on Artem Dovbyk, who is expected to move to Genoa. Roma are inclined to take on the 21-year-old initially on loan, with Club Brugge valuing their star German-Italian forward at €25 million. Tresoldi could be a coup for both Roma and Italy One could say that letting Tresoldi see out another season in Belgium to make sure the previous one wasn’t a fluke would be prudent, but when non-Premier League clubs get the kind of opportunity Roma have here — getting a player of Tresoldi’s potential for €25 million — it is almost impossible to say no. Moreover, despite representing Germany in youth football, Tresoldi remains eligible to represent Italy, and even fringe followers of the sport know by this point that the country is crying for young blood and a new hope, especially in front of goal. If he arrives in the capital and delivers in Serie A, he may embark on a path to not just flip Rome’s fortunes, but the country’s in general. And, of course, to lessen the burden on Donyell Malen is imperative, especially given he could play out wide to accommodate another striker down the middle. Anshuman Joshi | GIFN
