Michael Edwards ramping up brilliant £50m transfer for Liverpool
Michael Edwards ramping up brilliant £50m transfer for Liverpool Michael Edwards could be preparing a genius transfer move. It's been a far from ideal start to the summer transfer window for Liverpool. The Reds were forced into a managerial change after Arne Slot's position became impossible to maintain, and things only got worse when top target Yan Diomande decided his future lay with Paris Saint-Germain instead. The ongoing World Cup hasn't helped either. It's slowed the market right down, leaving Liverpool with plenty of business still to get through before the transfer window closes. A number of important players have already left Anfield, and there could be more departures on the way. There's still plenty of uncertainty surrounding the futures of Cody Gakpo, Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones, with speculation continuing to grow over all three. Then there's the enormous task of replacing Mohamed Salah, something that was never going to be straightforward. Liverpool have at least taken steps to strengthen at the back, bringing in Jeremy Jacquet after Ibrahima Konate's departure. But there's still a lot left to do. Midfield remains a priority, while the full-back positions also need attention. Andy Robertson has already moved on, and with Kostas Tsimikas expected to follow, Liverpool could find themselves needing both a new left-back and a right-back before the summer is over. The biggest issue Liverpool have to address is the winger position. Liverpool are now looking elsewhere to find gems beyond Diomande. But it's far from easy. It's becoming increasingly obvious that Liverpool will have to accept that the club is entering a genuine transition phase. Diomande was never viewed as a ready-made superstar capable of transforming Liverpool overnight, but he represented exactly the type of high-ceiling signing the recruitment team has built its reputation on. The problem is that the market offers very few right-wingers with the potential to eventually succeed Mohamed Salah. Elite left-footed attackers who can operate from the right, score goals consistently and carry the creative burden are incredibly rare. Diomande looked like one of those rare opportunities. If Liverpool do miss out on his signature, the recruitment team will need to identify another long-term solution because replacing Salah has always been one of the club's biggest challenges. It looks like though in typical Michael Edwards fashion, Liverpool's recruitment guru is rising to the challenge. Liverpool might be about to do a brilliant deal of their own, uncovering a gem who is ready to explore in the right environment. Caught Offside are reporting that Liverpool have made a significant push in order to sign Crysencio Summerville. The winger is only 24-years-old. He is a very quick and direct player, who has been a rare bright light during West Ham's relegation from the Premier League last season. Summerville followed that up by going to the World Cup, where he made four goal contributions in four games for the Netherlands. Many fans will be scratching their eyes about this move because Summerville doesn't appear like a big marquee signing on paper. However, this is exactly what Edwards does. He finds the rough diamonds and he gives them the platform at Liverpool to express themselves. Andy Robertson was never regarded as a player who could become the best left-back in the world, and yet he did. Now Liverpool are doing the same with Summerville, who according to the report above is valued at £50m, which is not even a bad price in the current inflated market.
