'Composed' Roelfsema joins Rangers after Nantes exit

Rangers have signed "composed" former Netherlands youth defender Mijke Roelfsema following the 28-year-old's exit from Nantes in the French top flight. Roelfsema, who has signed a two-year contract, joined Nantes in January from Irish side Treaty United but did not make it off the bench for the team who finished fourth in Ligue 1. Rangers head coach Leanne Crichton told her club website: "She's a composed defender who reads the game well, is comfortable in possession and brings leadership qualities both on and off the pitch." The Dutch defender played for Schoonhoven, Den Haag, Rice University in the United States and Calgary Foothills in Canada before her first professional contract with Appollon Ladies in Cyprus and moving on to Danish club Fodbold before joining Treaty. Both Crichton and Roelfsema hope those varied experiences will benefit Rangers. "I have played at a lot of different clubs and I think that has given me a lot of experience and, as I have gotten older, I really wanted to be part of a club that is trying to reach championship titles and I really wanted a good group of people with a good setup and this was honestly perfect," the defender said.
