Richard Hughes’ latest move confirms the fate of £60m Liverpool star
Richard Hughes’ latest move confirms the fate of £60m Liverpool star Liverpool need to make a lot of changes to their squad this summer. The 2025-26 season ended with them finishing in fifth place and only just qualifying for the Champions League. This is a massive fall from grace after they only just won the Premier League title a couple of seasons ago. However, now that they have Andoni Iraola at the helm , things are starting to look up again with many transfers being lined up by the club. But, since some of their own players will need to be sold so that they can generate some funds, it feels like the fate of one Liverpool star has been confirmed after the latest news to emerge from Anfield was shared. Liverpool wanting Crysencio Summerville could mean the end of the line for Cody Gakpo Liverpool's attack was one of their worst-performing areas last season. And, now that Mohamed Salah has exited and Hugo Ekitike is out injured until who knows when, they're in an even worse position. This is probably one of the main reasons why Victor Munoz has already been signed as, with how inflated the market is at the moment, the Spaniard was too good of a deal to miss. However, they can't just sign one attacker this summer, especially if they want to compete for silverware again. So, with this in mind, it's hardly surprising to see that Caught Offside have reported that Liverpool are wanting to add Crysencio Summerville to their ranks . The West Ham United forward was in decent form during the 2026 World Cup as he contributed to four goals in four games. And, since the Hammers have just been relegated and the Dutchman is way too good for the Championship, it's hardly surprising to see him being linked with an exit from the London Stadium. But, his arrival almost certainly means that Cody Gakpo 's time at Anfield would come to an end. Why Crysencio Summerville joining Liverpool could mark the end of Cody Gakpo's Liverpool career Gakpo's future has been up in the air for a while now. Much like Salah, the Dutchman failed to meet expectations last term and was probably one of the main reasons behind the Reds' poor showing. Most people thought that he'd thrive as Liverpool's main left-winger but, that was far from the case. And, now that Iraola has Munoz and Rio Ngumoha to choose from on the left, if another left-winger is brought in, it's clear that Gakpo will be the one dropped. Indeed, he could be used as a striker to plug the void left by Ekitike but, from the few games he played there during the 2025-26 campaign, it's clear that he isn't cut out to be the main attacking output of a Premier League team.
