Official: Real Madrid sell defender for €4m, retain 50% sell-on clause

Official: Real Madrid sell defender for €4m, retain 50% sell-on clause Real Madrid have finalised their second exit of the 2026 summer transfer window, with defender Fran Garcia having left to join Real Betis. When Real Madrid signed Marc Cucurella from Chelsea earlier in the summer, it became very clear that a left-back would need to sold, as it left four in the first team squad. Garcia was the obvious choice to be sold ahead of Alvaro Carreras and Ferland Mendy, especially as he was attracting interest from various clubs . Very early on, Betis established themselves as frontrunners for Garcia’s signature. Talks did stall for a while, but earlier this week, they managed to strike an agreement with Real Madrid , and a deal has now been made official via an official statement . “Real Madrid C. F. and Real Betis Balompié have reached an agreement for the transfer of our player Fran García. Real Madrid wants to show its gratitude and affection to a player who has always defended our shirt with dedication and exemplary behaviour. Real Madrid, which will always be their home, wishes Fran García and his family all the best in this new stage of their lives.” Real Madrid pocket minimum of €4m from deal Garcia, who follows Dani Ceballos in having left Real Madrid this summer, has joined Betis for a fee of €4m, which does represent a loss for the Bernabeu club after they re-signed him from Rayo Vallecano three years ago for €5m. However, they could pocket additional funds in the coming years, as they have retained a 50% sell-on clause as part of the agreement. Real Madrid will be satisfied with the deal done with Betis. It’s true that they could have earned more, especially if they sold him to a Premier League club, the fact that they will keep 50% of his rights means that more money will surely come in the future, although that would depend on him being sold by Los Verdiblancos.
