Mowbray 'everything the club needs' - Cantwell

Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray is the perfect appointment for the club, according to captain Todd Cantwell. Mowbray returned for a second spell in charge at Ewood Park when he was appointed in June. "The one thing I felt this changing room needed more than anything was a manager like Tony - a manager who understands the players and has complete clarity around what he wants, but he's got the people skills that go with it," Cantwell told BBC Radio Lancashire. "There's a lot of boys that are quite new to England, let alone the league, quite new to the country, so naturally they need a little bit of adaption time and when you're fighting down at the bottom of the league you're not getting that time. "So, it's a real balancing act. I think the manager is absolutely the answer to some exciting times for Blackburn, for sure." Rovers finished 20th in the Championship last season, five points clear of the relegation zone having sacked head coach Valerien Ismael in February before apppointing Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill on an interim basis until the end of the campaign. O'Neil rejected the offer to take the role on a permanent basis with Mowbray appointed after more than a year out of management having been sacked by West Brom in April 2025. "He's everything that I think the club needs. He's experienced, he's got an absolute wealth of experience," said Cantwell. "He's coached here before, so he knows the club, which I think is an important thing to have because I think like any club, they all have their own challenges, and they all have different support bases."
