The Exiles are hunting for their next boss for the 2026-27 season after the surprise exit of former Austria defender Fuchs at the end of June. It was announced he had left just two days before the squad – including six new signings – returned for training. Owner Huw Jenkins revealed the 40-year-old told him that he "didn't have a lot to give us" after a dramatic seven months in charge. "There are many factors that came into play and I didn't see that at this very moment it was the right time to continue anymore," Derbyshire-based Fuchs said to BBC East Midlands. The Exiles were bottom of League Two when he arrived in November and survived on a dramatic last day of the season in May, fighting back to win at Barrow. "Those five, almost six months I was there was tough work," said Fuchs, who replaced David Hughes in November. "I came into a club that was doomed to be relegated and turning it around fills me with a lot of pride. "I really enjoyed every single day that I went in, the boys gave me so much energy. "Coming out on top by not being relegated, securing League Two status and having those celebrations on the last game, was really good. I really enjoyed it." Chris Todd, who worked alongside Fuchs last season, is interim manager as Newport prepare for the start of the season. The Exiles travel to Southern League Premier South Gloucester City, who are managed by former County coach Dafydd Williams, on Saturday, 11 July (15:00 BST) for a third pre-season friendly after wins against Bristol Manor Farm and Newport City.
