Speed and secrecy: How Deco has changed the way Barcelona operate in the transfer market

Speed and secrecy: How Deco has changed the way Barcelona operate in the transfer market Barcelona’s activity in the summer transfer market has been impossible to ignore, not because of endless rumours or daily leaks, but because the club has kept negotiations largely out of the public eye, which is a noticeable shift from previous transfer windows. According to SPORT , that change reflects a new way of working under sporting director Deco, whose approach has placed speed, efficiency and confidentiality at the centre of Barcelona’s recruitment process.  While the pursuit of Julian Alvarez has naturally attracted attention because of the complexity of negotiating with Atletico Madrid, many of the club’s other operations have progressed with remarkably little publicity. Deco keeping Barcelona’s transfer plans quiet One of the clearest examples of Deco working behind the scenes came during Barcelona’s move for Anthony Gordon . Although reports confirmed that Deco travelled to London on several occasions, very few people knew which player those meetings involved.  During that period, speculation focused heavily on Joao Pedro, while Gordon’s move continued to develop away from the spotlight. That sequence shows the distinctive change in how Barcelona are approaching the transfer market.  By resolving personal terms first and limiting the number of people involved in negotiations, the club believe they can reduce unnecessary complications before formal talks begin. Those experiences appear to have convinced Deco that maintaining confidentiality is now just as important as negotiating financial terms.  Rather than allowing every stage of a transfer to become public knowledge, only a small internal group is involved in each operation, which includes the likes of Bojan Krkic, Joao Amaral and Alejandro Echevarria. Simply put, instead of responding to daily speculation, the club is placing greater emphasis on preparation, discretion and efficient decision-making.
