Sheffield United sign goalkeeper Soper
Sheffield United sign goalkeeper Soper Sheffield United have completed the signing of goalkeeper Poppy Soper on a one-year deal with the option of a further year. WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blades earlier today. The 24-year-old stopper has joined Sheffield United following a spell with FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club Rugby Borough. Soper is well-travelled in her career so far. The player has been on the books of seven different clubs. After starting out with Cardiff City, Soper has spent time with Plymouth Argyle, Chelsea, Charlton Athletic, Ipswich Town, Blackburn Rovers and Rugby Borough. The keeper arguably enjoyed her most successful season to date in 2025/2026 after getting a regular run of games in the Rugby Borough side. On the international stage, Soper has been on the fringes of the Wales senior squad, although she is yet to break into the team. After adding Soper to his Sheffield United squad, head coach Stephen Healy said “We’re really pleased to bring Poppy into the club. We wanted someone to come in who already has experience in this league but also has the capacity to both grow and challenge within our goalkeeper union. “Poppy has also worked with Sian [Rogers] in the past so there’s a solid, established working relationship there which is important, and we’re looking forward to seeing how she develops over her time with us.” Soper is Sheffield United’s second signing of the summer transfer window.
