Karim Adeyemi receives clearance to complete Barcelona medical after €22m deal agreed
Karim Adeyemi receives clearance to complete Barcelona medical after €22m deal agreed Barcelona have moved quickly to secure a move for talented German attacker Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund. Much like the Anthony Gordon deal that they pulled off earlier this summer, there was little to no news about Barça’s interest before they submitted the first bid. Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano gave his patented ‘Here we go’ for the deal yesterday, with the 24-year-old now on his way to Barcelona. Barcelona have agreed a deal worth €22 million plus €7 million in add-ons to sign the Bundesliga attacker. According to the journalist, Adeyemi has already spoken with Hansi Flick by phone, while sporting director Deco finalised the remaining details of the operation yesterday. Adeyemi set for the next step The medical and contract signing are now expected to be the next major stages of the transfer process. If everything proceeds as planned, Flick will soon have another attacking option available for his squad. The conversation between Adeyemi and the Barcelona coach is also an interesting detail. Flick will know the German international well, and direct contact with the player should help establish expectations about his role before he officially begins life at the club. For Deco, meanwhile, this is yet another feather in his cap. The sporting director has had to balance the need to strengthen Flick’s squad with the club’s financial reality. He has done that to perfection so far this summer, reinforcing the attack with the signings of both Gordon and Adeyemi. Flick adds more speed to his attack From a sporting perspective, Adeyemi would bring qualities Barcelona can use. His pace and ability to attack space could give Flick a more direct weapon, particularly in matches where Barça need to punish opponents with quick transitions. One step closer. Adeyemi will still need to adapt to Barcelona’s positional demands, competition for places and the pressure that comes with playing for the club. Still, the reported €29 million operation could prove an interesting piece of business if Flick can maximise the attacker’s strengths. At 24, Adeyemi should also have room to develop further. Nothing should be considered completely finished until the medical and contracts are completed. However, with Adeyemi now cleared to travel to Barcelona, if everything goes to plan, he is likely to be available for Flick from the start of pre-season. Barcelona are signing Adeyemi based on his potential and what he can add to the team. It remains to be seen how he gets on at his new club.
