Kingussie join Newtonmore, Skye & Oban Camanachd in cup semis

[BBC] There was heartbreak for Kinlochshiel when the Wester Ross team came within seconds of eliminating Kingussie in the quarter-finals of the Tulloch Camanachd Cup, only to lose 3-2 in extra-time at The Dell. Holders Newtonmore cruised through 6-0 at home to lower league visitors Glenurquhart and Skye edged Fort William 3-2 in Portree. Oban Camanachd completed the semi-final line-up with a 4-1 defeat of Caberfeidh at Mossfield. Kyles at last got a break in a testing season with their first Mowi Premiership points from a 3-2 local derby victory over visitors Col Glen. Shiel must have thought they were in heaven when Jay MacRae gave them the lead after four minutes, then doubled it two minutes later. Just when it looked as if Shiel's lengthy rearguard action was going to pay off, John MacRae was sent off with 10 minutes left, heralding a rapid response from Zander Michie. And there was worse to come for Shiel when Robert Mabon snatched a last-minute equaliser, sending the tie to extra-time as Dylan Borthwick won it for Kingussie with five minutes left. It took Newtonmore more than half an hour to break down the only lower league survivors but Struan Ross's strike then opened the floodgates for doubles for himself and Iain Robinson, plus goals from Brodie MacBean and Matthew Sloss. In Oban, Farquhar MacRae quickly put Caberfeidh in front but Camanachd struck back with a goal from Ross Campbell and a Lorne Dickie double split by a single from Connor Howe, to make Camanachd the only south side in the semi-final draw at the refurbished Inverness Castle on Monday 13 July. Ewan Campbell also got an early opener for Fort William in Portree, but Neil MacVicar soon struck back before Ruaridh MacLeod and John Gillies made in 3-1 in advance of Victor Smith's second for Fort. Skye's cup success was accompanied by their descent to the bottom of the Mowi Premiership as a result of Kyles' victory. Two from Ethan Kerr and a goal from Joe MacVicar had Kyles cruising 3-0 at half-time although Andrew MacVicar and Scott MacVicar struck back to set up a tense final half hour. Skye sit bottom with a single point but with two games in hand over Kyles and Col Glen, who are both a point above them. In the National Division Lovat, still with a game in hand, narrowed Glenurquhart's lead to two points with a 7-3 defeat of Glasgow Mid Argyll at Yoker. Kilmallie, in a repeat of the previous Saturday's cup tie, had a 2-1 success at Inveraray and Oban Celtic were thumped 5-0 by visitors Bute.
