Thomas Tuchel reaction: Unhappy with England vs Norway, but loves 'pure mentality — bottle it up and sell it'
England manager Thomas Tuchel is happy with the Three Lions reaching the World Cup semifinal, and thrilled with their bravery, but feels the team performing below standard. Norway took an early lead and Jude Bellingham's fantastic tournament saw him lead England back with a pair of goals in a 2-1 extra time win. "The result is fantastic, we're in the last four it's amazing, but we're not happy with the performance." He was asked in what sense? "In every sense. Again, the commitment is there but we made life very difficult for us in the way we played, how we played, Sloppy, lot of technical mistakes, not fast enough, not repetitive enough. We were lucky today." JPW — Jude Bellingham dragging England through World Cup Tuchel was then asked if the Three Lions were put off by the occasion of a World Cup quarterfinal. "It's not a mentality problem — this is pure mentality," Tuchel said. "How can you ask about mentality now? This is pure mentality, you can bottle it up and sell it. It's the quality of our games. That's it. It has nothing to do with mentality." England got through this game like they did against Mexico despite a rough first half and a red card, and like they did when DR Congo scared them in the Round of 32. Tuchel says their best performance is still coming from England. "We will get better. We need to get better. Now it's [time for] celebration."
