Girona yet to reach an agreement with Barcelona youth player despite recent talks
Girona yet to reach an agreement with Barcelona youth player despite recent talks Barcelona and Girona continue to explore a deal for Barca Atletic captain Brian Farinas, but the two clubs remain some distance from getting anything over the line. As reported yesterday, Girona are in talks with Barcelona over a move for the young midfielder, and while discussions are ongoing, a breakthrough has yet to arrive. Talks progressing but no deal yet According to Mundo Deportivo , negotiations between the two Catalan sides have not yet produced an agreement, even if there is mutual interest in making the move happen. Barcelona believe Farinas needs more game-time at a higher level. (Photo by Eric Alonso/Getty Images) Farinas, who is contracted to Barcelona until 2028, is well regarded at Montilivi, and Girona see him as a player capable of stepping up. Barcelona acknowledge that the 20-year-old needs to test himself at a higher level than the Segunda Federacion, and a move to Girona would offer him exactly that kind of platform in the Segunda Division. The nature of any potential transfer is still to be determined, with talks understood to be centred on whether the switch takes the form of a loan or a permanent departure. Time for the next step For Farinas himself, the feeling is that the moment has come to move on and continue his development elsewhere. Farinas is a close friend of Yamal. (Photo by David Ramos/Getty Images) Having captained Barca Atletic last season, the midfielder recognises that his cycle with the reserves has run its course and that a fresh challenge is the logical next step in his career. A close friend of Lamine Yamal, Farinas was one of the few genuine bright spots in an otherwise difficult campaign for the reserve side under Juliano Belletti. He featured 33 times, chipping in with five goals and seven assists, form that earned him occasional call-ups to train with Hansi Flick’s first team. The midfielder originally joined Barcelona back in 2018 after impressing in Villarreal’s youth ranks, and has spent the years since progressing steadily through the club’s academy structure. Should the deal eventually be completed, Farinas would become the latest addition to a Girona squad already taking shape ahead of the new campaign. The club have so far brought in Izan Gonzalez, Oleksandr Pyshchur and Ivan Morante as they look to strengthen their ranks.
