Liverpool to lose millions after major news emerges from Anfield
Liverpool to lose millions after major news emerges from Anfield Liverpool have already been through a lot of change this summer. They've replaced their manager and have already signed a new attacker in Victor Munoz . And, while these changes are certainly positive, the last thing that the Reds will want to do is go through another transitional season after the one that they endured during the 2025-26 campaign. But, in order for the Anfield outfit to get on a level playing field with their title rivals, they need to make multiple signings to bolster their squad. However, they could already be losing some of their transfer funds after the latest news to emerge from L4 was shared. Liverpool will pay Arne Slot's compensation if he wants to take the Netherlands job As mentioned, Arne Slot was relieved of his duties after underperforming as Liverpool's manager. The Dutchman may have won the Premier League title during his first season in charge of the club but, even that wasn't enough to keep him at the helm. His tactical choices were far from ideal and, not playing to the strengths of Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah massively hindered the way that the Reds performed. After his sacking, he's already been linked with a couple of jobs including becoming the manager of the Netherlands national team. Originally, it was thought that if he took the Netherlands job, he wouldn't be paid the entirety of the compensation he was owed by Liverpool. But now, a fresh report from De Telegraaf has now shared that the Reds would still pay their former head coach a decent chunk of change if he does decide to take the Netherlands job. "If Slot and the Football Association reach an agreement, he will not forfeit the millions in compensation he is still entitled to at Liverpool," they wrote. "In certain cases, however, that is the case. Whereas in the past a lump sum severance payment was often paid, clubs, particularly in England, are now choosing to suspend coaches upon dismissal and continue paying their monthly salaries until the end of the contract period. "According to sources at the English club, Liverpool wants to top up Slot's salary in his first year at the KNVB to the amount Slot would have been entitled to at Anfield. This would save the English club several million (the amount the KNVB offers Slot as salary). "Had Slot gone to a major rival at the top of the Premier League, Liverpool's attitude would have been different. But Slot, who finished fifth last season, behaved "very properly," according to a source at the club, when Liverpool decided to part ways with him a week after the final league match. "He also led the club to the championship in his first year, and partly because of that, Liverpool is granting him a job as national team coach." Arne Slot deserves to manage whoever he wants after Liverpool Even though things didn't end how anyone would have wanted them to with Slot at Liverpool, it still feels like it was an amicable break-up between the club and their former manager. Fenway Sports Group were likely hoping that the Dutchman would be their manager for at least another year so that he could try and get his team back on track. But, the fact that he only just qualified for the Champions League and that most of his players fell out with him made the situation untenable. One thing that has been made clear though is that the Dutchman is still a wanted man with AC Milan, Fulham and the Netherlands all wanting him as their new boss. Indeed, the jobs with AC Milan and Fulham are now off the table, but, if Slot wants to manage his country, Liverpool should allow him to. So, even though the Reds are likely to lose millions by topping up his salary and not just wiping out the compensation completely, it feels like it's the right thing for them to do.
