Adran Premier: Wrexham sign Lydia Sallaway from Aston Villa in preparation for UWCL season Wrexham AFC have signed Aston Villa youngster Lydia Sallaway on a season-long loan ahead of their historic 2026/27 season. The upcoming campaign will see Wrexham compete in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Wrexham have been making substantial investments into their squad both financially and in terms of talent. Jamaica international Natasha Thomas recently joined from Ipswich in what is regarded as a coup signing in domestic Welsh football. Alongside Thomas, Wrexham have brought in Lucy Farrell, Bella Reidford and Mikayla Cook. Sallaway spent some time last season on loan in the Scottish Women’s Premier League with Glasgow City. She has also represented Villa in the Women’s Super League and the League Cup. Wrexham head coach Jenny Sugarman expressed appreciation to Villa for trusting them with their young talent. “Lydia is a young player with huge potential and now she needs the opportunity to show herself at senior level,” she said. “She’s a very good technician, loves defending, is keen to learn, and is ready to compete. I want to thank Aston Villa for working with us on this loan deal. We believe our environment is one that will challenge and support Lydia on the next steps in her development.” UWCL challenge beckons for Wrexham AFC Wrexham now have one of their greatest challenges ahead. The UWCL awaits as they compete amongst Europe’s best. It will also mark the first time in a decade a Welsh club has hosted a Champions League fixture. Their qualifying campaign will begin against Armenian champions FC Pyunik at the Racecourse Ground on July 22nd. Meanwhile, the other semi-final sees Glentoran of Northern Ireland take on Riga FC of Latvia. The winners of the semi-finals will then play each other in the final, with the winner advancing to the second qualifying round.
