Ajax sign Chelsea keeper Liefting on loan
Ajax sign Chelsea keeper Liefting on loan Ajax have signed Chelsea goalkeeper Femke Liefting on a loan deal which will run for the 2026/2027 season. The Dutch club announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this morning. The 21-year-old returns to the Azerion Vrouwen Eredivisie after spending the last 18 months in England. Liefting started her senior career with VV Alkmaar before joining neighbours AZ in 2023. Her performances quickly attracted the attention of Barclays Women’s Super League champions Chelsea and she signed for The Blues in January 2025. The youngster has had a difficult time in England so far with foot and hip injuries hindering her progress but she did get some playing experience under her belt in a loan spell at Newcastle United last season. The Dutch youth international needs regular game time as she looks to get back into a rhythm of competitive football and she will hope to get that with Ajax. After bringing Liefting to Ajax, the club’s technical manager, Dolf Roks said “Femke is a talented goalkeeper who has already proven her quality in the Vrouwen Eredivisie. She also gained valuable experience at the highest level during her time at Chelsea, where she continued to develop. We are delighted that she will add experience and quality to our squad for the coming season.” Liefting is under contract at Chelsea until summer 2028.
